Despite fast growth in the sport across the Western U.S., youth lacrosse teams have been hard-pressed to find tournaments within convenient travel distance. To meet this need, the Utah Lacrosse Association (ULA) launched the Ski Town Shoot Out in 2005.

Park City, Utah is the high-altitude site for a high-action youth jamboree June 18-20, 2009. The boys bracket action takes place at Park City's renowned Ecker Hill complex, which boast some of the state’s best-maintained playing fields. The main boys venue - elevation 6,300 feet - is near Interstate 80, only 35 minutes' drive from Salt Lake International Airport, offering convenient access for all teams. The main girls and womens venue -"North 40" fields near Treasure Mountain International School (aka Treasure Mountain Middle School, 2530 Kearns Blvd). A limited number may take place at Park City High School’s Dozier Field (all men's games here), about ½ mile away at 1750 Kearns Blvd.

The organizing committee is in the process of securing discounts for local lodging. We encourage parents and players to stay the weekend and enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, and other recreational attractions, including Park City Mountain Resort and the Utah Olympic Park.

PLAYER AGE/GRADE:
Based on the results of a post tournament survey we are changing from age based to grade based categories.  If your player is in one of the following grades the player may participate in the bracket.
3rd/4th in the current school year (Spring 2009)
5th/6th in the current school year (Spring 2009)
7th/8th in the current school year (Spring 2009)
9th-11th in the current school year (Spring 2009, Girls Only)

The boys tournament has three brackets with between six and 16 teams participating in the 3/4th, 5/6th and 7/8th grade groups. Each boys team has a five-game schedule. Generally the schedule provides one game on Thursday afternoon and two each on Friday and Saturday.

The girls tournament has two brackets - 7/8th and 9-11th. Each girls team has a four-game schedule. The women's bracket has a four-game schedule. The girls and women's brackets play during the day Friday and Saturday.

The men's bracket has a three-game schedule and their games are held Friday and Saturday evening.

Games are one hour long. You will be able to find detailed rules, procedures and other information on the tournament web site soon.

For boys teams flying in early, we have game slots Thursday afternoon and early evening. Sunset is about 9:00 pm so there’s plenty of light.

Most games take place on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The tournament organizers will do their best to schedule games so that teams have uninterrupted time to enjoy Park City.

A limited number of optional “add-on” games may be available. Most “add-on” games will take place in the late afternoon. Add-on games are subject to availability of fields, officials and table crew. The organizing committee reserves the right to modify or cancel add-on and regular games due to these and other conditions. See "Boys Challenge Games" link at left for more information.

SPORTSMANSHIP
The Ski Town Shoot Out is predicated on sportsmanship and camaraderie. According to one participating coach, "this tournament has a spirit and soul that make it special."

Celebrate the Game with us. In our opening ceremonies, players from each team participate in the "Running of the Balls," building a multicolored lacrosse ball pyramid. Each level of the pyramid represents the people involved in the game. The base is your teammates, followed by coaches, officials, opponents, and family.

Throughout the event, we ask all participants to instill in the players a sense of honor, respect, and appreciation for the roots of the game.
